The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) and Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) requires users of work equipment to carry out risk assessments and provide work equipment that is suitable for its intended task and can be used without putting persons at risk. The Regulations cover machinery, appliances and tools – effectively anything used within the workplace.
Inspections are required after installation and before the equipment is put into service for the first time, to ensure that it has been installed correctly and is safe to operate. Thereafter the equipment must be inspected at suitable intervals or following exceptional circumstances liable to jeopardise the safety of the equipment.
